Climate

The favourable climate in this region is no myth. The temperatures are mild and rainfall is rare. The numerous authors who flocked to the region for its sunshine and exceptional light were not disappointed / mistaken...

Summer

The Provence countryside and Mediterranean coastline bask beneath intensely hot sunshine. The shade of the plantain trees and the bathing facilities are highly prized. Temperatures often soar to 30° in the middle of the day. The nights are pleasant and in the region of 20°.

In the Southern Alps, the valleys are warm but the air becomes fresher the higher the altitude. As on the coast, sunshine and an azure blue sky dominate the landscape.

Winter

Winter is the cold season but there are often hours of sunshine. In the plains and on the coast, temperatures can range from - 10° to 10°, even 15 to 20° on sunny days with no wind.

The Mistral – a cold wind that blows from the north and rids the sky of any cloud cover – quickly lowers the temperature. In the mountains, clouds seldom appear and sunshine predominates. Heavy snowfalls can occur.

Temperatures are frequently below zero.

Spring and Autumn

The Spring and Autumn seasons are drier and rainfall is sometimes heavy but of short duration. The Mistral often blows between March and May.

Nevertheless, the region does not go without its fair share of fine days, particularly in May and in early Autumn.
