Welcome retreats to a place a thousand miles from our hectic society in places
where contemplation is the rule. A moment of peace for an instant, the length
of a visit.
The Cistercian abbeys known as the “three Provencal sisters” were built
at the height of the Middle Ages, a period of spiritual renewal. Silvacane in
the Luberon is the most rural, with its yellow light and its stained glass. Le
Thoronet near Draguignan is located in the middle of wooded hills and each
summer it hosts a medieval music festival. The elegance of its architecture is
a source for architects from all over the world. Finally, Sénanque, not far
from Gordes, is situated in the hollow of a lonely valley planted with
lavender, it is a masterpiece of Roman art still inhabited by a small
community of monks who look after the building.
