The Estérel region has kept its wild beauty. It is covered with vast forests and its highest point reaches 600 m. The "Golden Cornice" could not better evoke the dazzling beauty of the coastal side of this massif. The porphyr cliffs overlooking the sea and the dark blue shoals offer a breathtaking panoramic view when traveling along the Golden Cornice road.
Porphyre has been extracted from ancient times. The Romans already knew how to extract and use it. This extremely hard volcanic rock, formely covered by softer sedimentary deposits which have been gradually removed by erosion, forms the splendid Estérel massif.
